My kids are always in costume. On the street people always ask “What’s the occasion?” 99% of the time it’s just what they chose to wear. Personally I love it and will be so sad when this period of their childhood it over. Today was no exception – except for the fact that they both dressed from STAR WARS! My husband would be in heaven had he been home. So this day in particular called for some quick photos outside. I had my 35mm lens on my camera from some early morning shots and normally wouldn’t use it for candid portraits. I prefer to compress the background a bit more than my 35mm will allow. But sometimes you have to go with it when your kids actually want to take pictures! My daughter was more game than little Darth but 5 minutes and a potty break later I got these little gems. Treasures for years from now for sure. And I can’t wait to see people’s faces as they take on the city today!
I’d love to capture your little ones playing. Let’s make a date together soon!
I have been photographing lots of dance classes lately and was thrilled when Miss Jackie asked me to take a few snaps from our Pyrmont Munchie Movers class. This is my daughter’s second year of Munchie Movers and I love that this year my son was able to join her. We LOVE Miss Jackie – and I love that this class is full of hip hop, ballet, acrobatics and tons of fun. On this particular day the kids were in full on dance mode – twirling, rolling, spinning and dancing their little hearts out. It’s an hour full of non stop activity which results in guaranteed happy tired kids. I love that I’ll have these photos of them when they are grown – and I hope Miss Jackie loves them too.
Last weekend I met up with this gorgeous four year old and her mum for some photos on top of the highest point in Pyrmont. It’s an amazing little park from which you can see the Anzac Bridge, the CBD and the Harbour Bridge. Sydney has been experiencing some amazing thunderstorms lately and this summer afternoon was no exception. With the storm rolling in, we had a little play running around the impressive sculptures and stopping to pick some wild flowers. I love photographing little kids and am always in awe of their energy, excitement and wonder at the world around them. From the park in the sky we made our way to see the Pyrmont Christmas tree. Little legs get tired so Mum obliged with a piggy back ride along the way. The City of Sydney puts up these beautiful neighbourhood Christmas trees everywhere and they bring such joy to kids and adults alike. You can’t help but make a Christmas wish when you pass by and Lucy was no exception. A wish full of joy, excitement, and anticipation – that is what Christmas is about. Just after the wish the rain started so we quickly hurried home to stay safe and dry. A perfect December afternoon. Happy Christmas!
On a sunny slightly chilly Monday morning I had the great pleasure of meeting this beautiful family for a five year old milestone session down at Pirrama Park in Pyrmont. This gorgeous girl also had a little sister on the way so this was their last session as a family of three. I could already tell she was going to be an incredible big sis. We started out at the playground where I hung back as little miss soon-to-be-five had a play on her favourite things. I love just watching kids at play and enjoy themselves – it is the best way to capture the essence of children. You could tell this family had such fun together as even got mum in on the spinning action. Then out came the Elsa dress and we moved down to the wharf for some iconic Sydney shots with the Harbour Bridge in the background. Grandma just happen to be in town so I was able to get some sweet shots of the whole family together. Then up to the jacaranda trees we went. This particular tree was mum’s favourite and mum wanted some sweet shots together under this stunning cascade of purple flowers. Our last stop was James Watkinson Reserve high up on the hill overlooking Sydney Harbour. This little park is a gem and miss soon-to-be-five was quick to engage both mum and dad in a bit of a play. I love how varied this session was as we explored all of this sweet family’s favourite spots in Pyrmont. I hope they enjoyed the session as much as I did and I cannot wait to meet their new little girl in the new year.
There was so much all around joy as these little ones played in Sydney’s majestic Hyde Park yesterday afternoon. This beautiful blonde haired boy is just approaching his first birthday and mum was keen to capture this milestone. Big sis was such the perfect little model and playmate. She had me engaged in a game of tag before we even got started! We started out by the big fountain for some more posed family shots and then into the tree canopy. All of a sudden the kids had formed their own little band that was beyond picture perfect. From there we went on to the arbor. The flowers were vibrant and provided such a lovely background to a lot of chasing games, water play and a bit of play time in the sand. You could just see how much fun these kids must have playing with their parents every day. The clouds moved in on us a bit toward the end but that didn’t interrupt a bit more dancing, climbing and all around silliness. Here is a sneak peek of their session. Many many more to come!
