Is your phone full of screenshots? Of course it is! I don’t know anyone who doesn’t use screenshot-ing the way we used to use memopads.
Luckily, most phones now have a separate album for screenshots so they don’t take up valuable space in your camera roll. However, there is a catch. When you want to download your photos or if you have an automatic backup running, the screenshots get included. This can be frustrating, especially if you are building or maintaining a master family photo collection. The process of deleting screenshots one by one can be painful and consume a lot of precious time we don’t have to spare.
So what is the solution?
✅️ Instead of mindlessly scrolling your phone, use that time to review your screenshots and delete the ones you no longer need. In my experience, 75% of my screenshots are only relevant for a short amount of time.
✅️ Consider using another app like Notes, Notion, or Keep to organize your screenshots. You can use hashtags, labels, or categories to sort them and make them easier to find.
✅️ Try to keep your screenshots album on your phone close to empty. This will help prevent clutter and make it easier to manage your photo collection.
✅️ Depending on what kind of phone you have, when you download your photos, you may see a designated “Screenshots” folder. Don’t add these to your Master Photo Collection or import them into Lightroom.
✅️ Some backup apps, like Dropbox, allow you to specify which albums to back up. You can untick the screenshots album and any others that don’t need backing up. You can always manually add important screenshots to your backup app.
Dealing with your screenshots is easier than weeding out your precious photos. It is less painful and makes a world of difference to the quality and quantity of images in your photo collection.
